Get Out of Jail Card for Aminu Lamido as Court Grants him Bail
A Kano Federal High Court has granted bail to Aminu Lamido, first son of the Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who was arrested last year for money laundering a charge for which he was arraigned yesterday and remanded to prison. By the boil granted him today, Aminu will now leave prison provided he can fulfill the bail conditions.
Delivering judgement on the bail application, Tuesday morning, Justice Fatu Riman said, “It is trite that judicial discretion should be marked by fairness and must be guided by law”, adding that ” I am persuaded that the prosecution failed to prove that the accused person will jump bail if granted.”
Aminu was arraigned yesterday (Monday 5th February, 2013) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged false declaration of $50, 000 in his possession while on his way to Cairo in December, was charged with money laundering punishable under Section 2(5) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011. Expectedly, he pleaded not guilty.
